Meet Sarah Boyd
I am an independent piano teacher & studio owner in Metro Detroit, MI. I began teaching piano as a freshman in high school & quickly fell in love with it!
My bachelor degree is in Music Ed from Grove City College (most of the other music majors wanted to be marching band Directors). After graduation, I began teaching elementary music & middle school class piano, 6-8 grade. Let me tell you, that was a rockin' group piano class!
I stopped teaching full-time when my first child was born in 2008 & started building my independent piano studio.
2008 was the same year I studied with Dr. Gordon and learned about Music Learning Theory (MLT). In 2010 I met Marilyn Lowe, author of Music Moves for Piano. I was fortunate to be mentored by her for the next several years.
In 2010, I began my own Music Together Center, @hummingbirdsmt, which I still direct today and has reached over 500 families!
In 2017, I began working as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s lead Teaching Artist. Working in ed department of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is an honor, as I get to help bring music to children all across the metro region and beyond.
As my kids have gotten older, I've been able to finish some of my own personal goals in education.
I completed my MM in Music Ed at EMU with Dr. Heather Shouldice in 2022.
I completed a graduate certificate in Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique at Salem College with Dr. Lister-Sink in 2022 (and healed my own playing related injury!).
In 2022 & 2023, I completed PDLC’s with GIML in Piano Level 1 & 2.
Mine has been a journey of small steps which result in longterm progress.
Always learning, always growing.
Now I’m excited to start meeting you & supporting teachers interested in audiation-based piano!
